Hitchin: A ride - with MerryNotesDesigns

Merrynotesdesigns is the graphic design project of Merrin Sharples-Moore, a talented illustrator with a unique cartoonist style. From original commissions to re-imagining classic film posters in new ways, her products are a must have on any wall.

In order to shoot her lookbook, we needed to find a way to compliment her vibrant designs. It was important to strike an artistic blend between the place between the books, films and TV series that inspired Merrin, as well as her personal surroundings and influences that have shaped her life and her work. We first took photographs in Merrin's home: Her rooms and her garden, establishing a connection between her workspace. Shooting at Merrin's of course required the approval of her cats Pippa, Pickles & Spice, who were keen to investigate the set.

We then took an expressive selection of shots in her hometown of Hitchin. The challenge was tying her surroundings, to the iconic symbols of popular culture she re-interprets. We found links such as the deep-rooted woods in ‘Stranger Things’, antique record shops for ‘Nowhere Boy’, to the pub garden for ‘The World’s End’. These significant locations in her life compliment the designs.

Be sure to check out the full Lookbook on the Photography page and get her posters on her Etsy shop.
